Welcome to the club's new website, and many thanks to new committee member, Richard Nichols, who is not only producing the website but also funding it as well.
After a difficult period of upheaval at the club, including the resignation of both chairman, Martin Moody, and first team manager, Steve Moss, we now have much more positive news at the club. We appointed Andy Leader as our new manager at the committee meeting at the beginning of June. A former professional and non-league footballer, Andy is a well-known local manager, with fifteen years coaching and management experience. He has a great record of building competitive sides on small budgets, and I am convinced that he is the best man for our job. He is also a great bloke and I am sure we will have a lot of fun with him. Andy has already set about rebuilding the squad, and has signed 17 players in his first week - a remarkable achievement in itself. This forms the nucleus of a side which Andy is still working very hard to strengthen - I am sure that if we all get behind Andy and the players, we will have a team which will be more than capable of keeping us in the Southern League.
Andy has brought Micky Read as assistant and Jimmy Ball as coach. Micky worked with Andy for 5 years at BAT, where they put out a succession of competitive sides without any playing budget at all. Jimmy is the son of Alan, of course, but also a respected coach in his own right. He also has excellent contacts in the game, which are already proving very useful to the club. Gary Parrett, formerly manager of Christchurch, will also assist Andy on a part-time basis.
We can now start to look forward to pre-season, and most of all the International Tournament on 20th-22nd July, when we will welcome US Laon from France and TS Geissen-Wieseck from Germany to the Denplan City Ground. This is shaping up to be a great weekend, with all sorts of activities and entertainment in addition to the football. Full details are elsewhere on this website. This is an important weekend for the club financially, and I urge all our members and supporters to support the event in every way that you can.
Thanks for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you around the ground at one of our working parties over the next few weeks, or during pre-season.
Best Regards, Derek
