Winchester City 5 Cowes Sports 0

Winchester City brushed Cowes Sports aside to break into the last sixteen of the County Senior Cup. City gave a debut to 22 year old former Team Bath, Southampton and A F C Bournemouth goalkeeper Rob Mitchell, to replace Joe McCormack whom Newport IOW who hold his dual registration did not want to cup tie him. City top scorer Andrew Forbes had to be content with a start on the bench as 19 year old Adam Rogers kept hold of the second strikers shirt following his midweek hat trick.

A poor first half saw very few chances. City started the more attacking side, Lloyd Webber being denied by Sports goalkeeper Gary Streeter after a mistake in the Cowes defence. Streeters' quick thinking denied Webber a further chance later in the half but neither goalkeeper were called into serious action. Darren Powell managed a shot across the face of goal on the half hour that was dealt with comfortably by Mitchell, then Shaun Dykes long range effort was also taken in his stride by Streeter. Sam Hart fired wide when well placed for Cowes whilst Ian Mancey saw a header from a Dyke cross clawed away by Streeter as the first half was edging to a close.

As it appeared Cowes would reach the half time stage goalless Matthew Bicknells corner to Dyke saw Dykes cross reached by the head of David Goss only to be helped further over the line by Powell and City were ahead.

Forbes took the field for the second period replacing Mancey who had a suspected broken thumb. Forbes first touch doubled Citys score. For the thirteenth consecutive first team appearance Forbes netted. Being set up by Bicknell Forbes angled a drive past Streeter. Five minutes later a Gary Green cross was turned home by Rogers and City were comfortable three goals ahead.

On the hour after being set up by Bicknell, Rogers and Dyke, Lloyd Webber fired low for Citys fourth. Streeter did well to deny Bicknell soon after. The final goal arrived with five minutes remaining. Kevin Brewsters cross was knocked back across the face of goal by Forbes and Rogers rammed the ball into the net for his fifth goal in two games. There was still time for Bicknell to see a cross cum shot flick off the bar, but City were safely into Round Three.
