Brockenhurst 0 Winchester City 4
City had to work hard for a victory at Brockenhurst. The home side buoyed by their recent victory over neighbours Lymington & New Milton battled well against a City side that all the City supporters know can play better.
Despite creating several chances in the first half, the match was still goalless at the interval. Home goalkeeper Ian Brunnschweiler dealt comfortably with most efforts straight at home. Liam Green was one of the first to fire in a shot soon followed by Ian Mancey.
The home side created chances of their own. They were unlucky not to have taken the lead on thirteen minutes. An opening created by Neil Midgely saw Keith Williams shot hit the post. Gary Green was again prominent in the City midfield, he had had a long range effort saved by the keeper, then on the half hour Ian Manceys header from a Matthew Bicknell cross was also collected by Brunnschweiler.
Mancey shot tamely at the keeper and Andrew Forbes uncharacteristically shot wide when well placed and also saw a header from a Toby Redwood cross go wide before the interval. Brockenhursts other best chance of the opening half fell to Midgely whose shot was saved by Oliver Rastall.
Brockenhurst started the second half with an instant chance, Steve Jenkins set up Midgely but his shot went just wide of the target. Within four minutes of the restart though City were ahead. Brockenhurst player manager Graham Kemp taking the sides goal kicks owing to an injury to Brunnschweiler only fell for Liam Green. Green quickly played the ball to Forbes on the edges of the area ho steadied himself before curling a shot into the corner of the net beyond the reach of the keeper.
Bicknell headed a Forbes cross just wide of the target before City added their second goal on sixty-eight minutes. Gary Greens work on the left hand flank saw him deliver a cross to the far post where Forbes turned home his forty ninth goal of the season.
City made a couple of substitutions, Steve Tate coming on for his debut and boosting City to a three-man attack. Jenkin went close for Brockenhurst before City added their third goal in the seventy third minute. Following a Brockenhurst corner the ball was cleared and City quickly raced on through Forbes, Tate and Webber against a three man Brockenhurst rearguard. Interchanging passes between the three City attackers, the ball finally fell for Lloyd Webber to strike home a quality shot from just inside the area.
Liam Green shot narrowly wide and Forbes was denied a hat trick owing to a fine save from Brunnschweiler before City added their fourth goal in the eighty eighth minute Ian Mancey turning home a cross from Forbes.
