Moneyfields 0 Winchester City 4
It took City an eleven minute spell midway through the second period to net four goals scoring a convincing victory. Leading the scoring was Andrew Forbes with a hat trick that takes his league tally of goals this season so far alone to 30.
Keeping an unchanged line up from the midweek mauling of Thatcham Town for the first time this season City failed to score a goal in the opening forty-five minutes. Early on Forbes and Danny Smith combined but Smiths effort was saved by goalkeeper Peter Houkes. Forbes headed a Smith free kick narrowly wide of the target and Forbes lobbed the ball over the top of the advancing Houkes but also over the bar after being put in by an Adam Rogers flick on.
A long-range lee Mould effort was saved by Joe McCormack but it was City that held the ascendancy. Rogers was denied when first he shot straight at keeper Houkes but then saw his shot from the rebound cleared away by a defender. Kevin Brewsters corner left by Lloyd Webber saw Smith fire over the bar. Probably the closes chance though of the opening half went to the home side. With three minutes remaining to the interval a poor clearance by McCormack fell invitingly for Dave Wright but the midfielders lofted thirty five-yard shot skimmed the top of the crossbar.
City followers were getting slightly anxious when early in the second period Forbes was denied at point blank range by Houkes which was followed by Forbes sidefooting wide from a Matthew Bicknell cross. All fears though were wiped away after sixty-two minutes. Brewsters corner saw a melee on the goalline and Forbes managed to bundle the ball over the line and City were ahead.
Four minutes later David Goss rose to head home a Bicknell free kick for his third goal in three games. A twenty yard strike from Forbes two minutes later saw City take a three goal lead despite Houkes getting a palm to the ball. Forbes found time to lob the ball over the bar before he completed his fifth hat trick of the season slotting the ball past the advancing Houkes after seventy-three minutes.
The battling Moneyfields side which had held their own well early on and were on a ten match unbeaten run had no further resistance to offer as City extended their lead at the top of the Wessex League.
City : McCormack (Waite 77), Dyke, Bicknell, Smith, Goss, Blake, Webber (L Green 77), Lang (Laister 77), Rogers, Forbes, Brewster
