Winchester City 4 Fleet Town 0
Winchester City claimed their second four goal victory in three days, following an excellent first half performance against Dr Martens League eastern Division side Fleet Town at the Denplan City Ground in the Second Round of the Russell Cotes Cup.
It was former Fleet Town striker Ian Mancey who started the scoring in the eighth minute, firing home following neat control on the edge of the box. Seven minutes later and strike partner Andy Forbes produced an excellent finish for his 50th strike of the season from his thirty first appearance.
A flowing move on forty minutes saw Mancey fire home his second goal of the evening as he maintains his impressive scoring rate of fifteen goals for the season from eighteen appearances. Fleet Town never looked capable of reducing the deficit lead admirably by Ian Saunders from the heart of the Town defence, although they did have the ball in the net on the stroke of half time through Eddie Smith but the effort was disallowed for offside.
City never produced the same inspired form in the second period netting only once with a fine strike from Danny Smith after being set up by Forbes. City keeper Ollie Rastall though was only troubled once really in the half when a long range high shot by Smith has to be caught by the keeper.
With eleven minutes remaining referee Mr B Knight awarded Fleet Town a goal. But following the intervention of a linesman again the effort was disallowed as it was adjudged the ball had never crossed the line, decision a drop ball deep in the City penalty area, which saw the City defence resolutely clear.
City now travel to Brockenhurst in the Quarter Final which should be played on Tuesday 20th January.
City : Rastall, Dyke, Lang, Redwood (Bicknell 45), Hall, Brewster, L Green, Mancey, Forbes, Smith Unused subs Rogers, Webber, Goss, Hards
