Sydenhams Wessex League
Winchester City 4 Wimborne Town 0
City recorded their third consecutive four-goal Sydenhams Wessex League victory; taking the three points in a convincing win over Wimborne Town.
An even opening twenty minutes finally saw City take the lead with Toby Sumner’s first goal for the club. Shaun Dykes cross was headed towards goal by Jamie Musselwhite but Wimborne goalkeeper Stewart Kearns pushed away the strikers header. Liam Green collected the ball on an acute angle and drove it back across the face of goal where Sumner prodded the ball over the line from close range.
Ian Mancey shot over after being set up by Sumner on the half hour but eight minutes later and Sumner again the provider, Musselwhite executed a superb finish from out wide to pout City two ahead.
City threatened to run up a high score, as the interval approached Stewart Langs header from a Dyke corner was again met with a fine save by Kearns.
The second period saw a much better display from the visiting Wimborne side. Dave Hook produced good stops to deny Sam Percival from a set piece free kick and a cross cum shot from Paul Rideout as City’s two-goal lead looked slightly vulnerable. Dave Clements should have done better for Wimborne when well placed on the hour but shot tamely at Hook.
City spurred themselves back into life, Dave King had a header from a Dyke cross saved by Kearns followed by another move involving Dyke and Ian Buckman allowed Mancey another goalbound effort but again Kearns was flying across his goal to keep the score down.
Mat Jones on his return to City saw a diving header go inches past the post and Mancey had another effort off target.
Mancey who had a strong tussle with Wimborne centre back Percival all afternoon, finally ended with a goal to his name on seventy-seven minutes. Buckmans floated ball into the area being despatched [past Kearns by the head of Mancey.
Liam Green saw a drive again pushed away by Kearns as the Wimborne skipper kept the City score down. A goal in the final minute gave City their third four nil league victory ten days. Dykes short corner to Buckman, and another delivery from the midfielder saw Dave King arrive at the far post to prod home goal four.
