Thursday 14th July
Pre-season Friendly
Winchester City 0 A F C Bournemouth 2
A fine summers evening saw an entertaining pre season game in front of a bumper 1,041 Denplan Ground crowd. City’s second game of the warm up campaign against an A F C side facing their third fixture in six days.
Manager Steve Moss started with Alan Walker-Harris in the City goal and gave debuts to summer signing David King from A F C Bournemouth whilst Michael Dean returned to the side for the first time since his return to the club. In a flow of substitutions Stewart Lang also reappeared in City colours whilst 17-year-old Thomas King a graduate from the youth team was given a debut in the second half.
City’s illustrious opponents were ahead inside two minutes. A long range angled drive from Steve Purches had the City goalkeeper Walker-Harris thumping the ground in frustration as the first shot of the evening hit the back of the net.
There was plenty for the bumper crowds to enjoy though they had to wait until the hour mark for the second and final goal of the game. A shot from A F C Bournemouth’s trialist Nick Hudson cannoned back off the post and struck youth team striker Curtis Allen to put City two goals behind.
The closest City came to scoring in the evening was a cross cum, shot from Jamie Nash from the tight flank that deceived Bournemouth goalkeeper Gareth Stewart but struck the bar. City goalkeeper for the final third of the game David Hook produced a number of inspired stops to prevent A F C Bournemouth from increasing their advantage.
