Sydenhams Wessex League
Winchester City 4 Alton Town 1
City’s second home Wessex League match this campaign finished with the same result as that three days earlier. Two 4-1 victories for City, both games seeing them concede a needlessly scrappy goal, though at least the City strikers seemed to have started well.
After a dull opening, Michael Dean fired a shot on twenty-seven minutes that was saved by goalkeeper Micky Street. Shortly after a Liam Green corner saw Stewart Lang head back into the fray and Street had to be alert to deny Ian Mancey.
With City starting to take authority the opening goal arri9ved on twenty-nine minutes. Ian Mancey executed a fine turn and shot beyond Street after being set up by Franny Dolan.
Two City goals quickly followed in the space of a minute. Jamie Musselwhite shot over from a Liam Green cross, before the same combination worked again with Musselwhite this time heading home City’s second goal on thirty two minutes. Dean added goal number three with a shot from the edge of the area within sixty seconds.
It appeared that City might open the floodgates with a goal five minutes into the second period. A good spell of early pressure and some attractive football saw Musselwhite notch his second goal of the game.
City appeared to lose their concentration after that as the second half slipped away. Very few chances were created. With a mixture of changes and tinkering with formations, City conceded a goal eight minutes from time. Waiting for an infringement to be given in their favour, City allowed Tim Rosewell to get beyond the City back line and fire home a consolation Alton goal.
