City eased to a six-goal victory over bottom of the table Portland United, home goalkeeper David Hook having a quiet evening in a game that was played in ever increasing freezing conditions.
Taking control from the outset, City were ahead on nine minutes. Shaun Dykes cross was parried away by visiting goalkeeper Nick Carroll but Ian Mancey was on hand to head home the loose ball.
Midway through the opening half, Portland were caught napping when City took a quick corner, Matthew Bicknell delivered a cross into the area where Mark Jones arrived to send a header low past Carroll and out City two ahead.
Mancey netted the third goal of the evening on the half hour with a low left foot drive and five minutes later City were celebrating again when Ian Buckman cross was back heeled home by Jamie Musselwhite.
Danny Wakefield had a shot pushed away by Carroll as half time approached as Portland looked for some respite.
It took City thirteen minutes of the second period before registering their fifth goal. Wakefield And Mancey exchanged passes before slipping in Musselwhite who skipped past two challenges before firing home his twenty third goal of the season.
City then made a triple substitution and seven minutes later one of the substitute Vince Rusher saw a shot tipped over the bar by Carroll. Jones headed wide from a Dyke corner and Carroll saved another Wakefield effort as City tried to increase their score.
The final goal of the evening arrived with only six minutes remaining. Buckman's cross was deflected by a defender into the path of Ben Kneller who coolly stroked the ball past Carroll to wrap up the evenings scoring.
