Tuesday 13th March
British Gas Business Southern League South and West Division 1
WINCHESTER CITY 1 TAUNTON TOWN 1
CITY LET POINTS SLIP AT THE DEATH
At this stage of the game it was Winchester who looked the most likely to score and Martin Thomas had a good shot saved by the keeper’s feet
and Mancey put a header over the bar. City were caught on the break from the goal kick and in a well worked move Adam Faux curled a shot
round the post.
Mark Zawadski, making a rare start in place of the injured David Hook, pulled off a good save as Taunton pressed forward and at the other end
Gamble forced the Taunton keeper into a save at the expense of a corner.
Lloyd Webber advanced up field to work his way into the box but his cross was cut out with Vavrecka running in.
With time ticking away Winchester piled on the pressure, Smith, Mark Jones, Josh Thomas and Neil Champion all managed to find their way into
the Taunton penalty area but the big boot upfield generally cleared the danger.
Manager Steve Moss brought on Franny Dolan in the 83rd minute for Cousins who had run himself into the ground and a couple of minutes
later City took the lead. Mancey controlled the ball well and fed Gamble who scored one of his trademark goals with a run and shot across
the keeper, (85th minute).
Jamie Musselwhite came on for Mancey in the 89th minute as City consolidated to play out time but had two points snatched away from
them when Steve Cook slammed a shot against the underside of the bar and the ball crossed the line as it bounced down with Zawadski covering
it. After a certain amount of controversy the referee awarded the goal.
With all the stoppages during the match it entered its 98th minute before the referee blew for time.
City: Mark Zawadski, Martin Thomas, Peter Smith, Mark Jones, Josh Thomas, Phil Cousisns, Lloyd Webber, Tom Vavrecka, Ian Mancey, Mark
Gamble, Neil Champion, Substitutes: Franny Dolan, Steve Moss, Jamie Musselwhite, Martin Beck.
