Tuesday 30th January
Hampshire Senior Cup Quarter Final

Fleet Town 1 - Winchester City 0

City fielded new signing Ryan Woodford from Newport for his debut in the Hampshire Senior Cup and had two injured players on the bench coming back to fitness, Melvin Rogers and Pete Smith. The Club further strengthened its playing squad by signing Zak Glasspool from Eastleigh prior to kick off but he was ineligible to play in this cup match.

For the first twenty minutes there was not much to chose between the teams with defences well on top, Shaun Thurgood again had a good game for City well supported by Lloyd Webber.

Fleet broke the deadlock in the 29th minute when City conceded a ?soft? goal. The ball was played into the penalty area and bounced three times without a clearance before Michael Douglas lashed it home from close range.

After this setback city never really looked like scoring and although they competed in all areas of the game were unable to exert any great pressure.

Manager Steve Moss switched the pattern of play for the second half resting Woodford and bringing on Smith but this had little effect. Further changes, Ross Diaper for Chris Flood (65th) and Melvin Rogers for Neil Champion (67th) still did not do the job and was not until the 80th minute that City got in any telling shots. Mark Gamble put in a good run and his shot was beaten out and picked up by Tom Vavrecka whose long range effort was wide.

City: David Moss, Ryan Woodford, James Davis, Dan Wakefield, Sean Thurgood, Chris Flood, Lloyd Webber, Tom Vavrecka, Mark Gamble, Jamie Musselwhite, Neil Champion, Subs: Melvin Rogers, Ross Diaper, Stewart Lang, Pete Smith, Mark Zawadski.
