Tuesday 3rd October
Winchester City 1 Windsor and Eton 1

British Gas Business Southern League Div One S&W

City yet again contrived to gift their visitors an early lead on Tuesday night when a a long upfield ball caught Dave Goss wrong footed and also deceived Dave Hook who came a long way off his line and allowed Windsor and Eton?s Ben Porter to walk the ball into an empty net (12th minute).

The irony of the situation was that City could have been two up when they conceded the goal, Mark Gamble made an early strike when he headed down a cross and shot on the turn for the keeper to scramble the ball away and Jamie Musselwhite clipped a post with a header with the keeper well beaten.

City continued to press with Gamble and Sam Cockrell working hard and the experience of Llloyd Webber and Mark Jones, making a return from injury, in midfield creating chnaces but Windsor defened well and the attack was not given much room. Musselwhite was unlucky again when he put in a long range shot which beat the keeper but again hit the post and was cleared.

At the other end Hook saved well with his feet and Goss headed clear when under pressure.

City got back on even terms in the 39th minute when Cockrell fed Gamble who slipped the ball to Jones to cross. Gamble collected the ball, controlled it and scored his first goal for the club with a well placed shot.

New signing Francis Dolan replaced Sturat Lang at half time and this gave the City attack another option from midfield. Webber had the chance to put the home side into the lead when running in well he slammed a pull back from the byeline just wide.

For a period Windsor and Eton dominated in attack but gradually City, with Pete Smith and Dan Wakefield on the flanks created chances and Gamble causing havoc with his speed in the box but the goal never came.

In the 75th niute Ian Mancey, also returning after injury, replaced Cockrell and as a result Windsor pulled more men back and allowed City very few chances. With time running out Pete Smith gave way to James Davis and at the last gasp he headed close from a free kick.
