CITY CRASH OUT OF THE TROPHY
Winchester City 1 Northwood 4
City crashed out of the F.A. Trophy at the Denplan Stadium on Tuesday evening after making a bright start.
After 90 goalless minutes at Northwood on Saturday, the goals flowed on a foggy night in Winchester. City took the lead when Ian Mancey struck a
brilliant free kick in the 4th minute but by the 9th minute City were 2-1 down!.
Northwood struck through Yeboah who headed the equaliser from a cross in the 7th minute and Williams slammed home a long range shot in the 9th with City keeper David Hook seemingly unsighted. Matters got worse in the 20th minute when Manager Steve Moss had to make an early substitution taking off the injured Stuart Lang and bringing on Dave Goss and it took the team a little time to settle again and Northwood pressed their attacking edge and went further ahead in the 28th minute when Shipperly converted a free kick.
Just before half time it looked as if the luck was begining to turn for City when Northwood had a player sent off for a second yellow card offence.
Pete Smith came on at half time replacing James Davis and this added a new dimension to the City attack against the 10-man Northwood but obviously the home sides luck was out when a soft shot received the slightest of deflections wrong-footing Hook for Northwoods fourth goal in the 57th minute.
City pressed forward and Jamie Musselwhite had three shots hot the post but Winchesters' name was obviously not on the Trophy this season.
Wes O'Connor replaced Neil Champion in the 67th minute but this last throw of the dice could not force a goal.
