Basingstoke tournament

Winchester U12's

With great enthusiasm Winchester took 2 teams to Basingstoke, meeting up at our normal haunt Tesco's car park, Winnal. After negotiating the M3, Basingstoke, parking and setting up camp, parents and players got ready for a very competitive tournament. The teams where split to give a number of new players a competitive game mixed with seasoned veterans in the 2nd team!! While the first team was a mixture of A and B team players from the 07/08 season.

2nd team

The second team was rocked by an early defeat in the first game. After some management discussions and a sandwich, new tactics where introduced. Helping to ensure the next 2 games achieved 2 deserved draws.  Many thanks to all the girls who all played with great heart.

1st team

The U12 first team playing in the other group played brilliantly and managed not to lose a single game.  So into the semi finals, which was a very tense game, ending 1v1 after extra time. So onto the dread penalty shoot out, this was not looking good .... as all tournament season Winchester fell at this stage. It took 5 penalties from each team to decide - with Winchester coming out top. Girl of the game our goalie - Massie, saving penalties with a damaged wrist.

The final game was against our hosts Basingstoke Colts, having played a draw them in the pool stage, it was going to be hard game. After full time, Winchester played valiantly to maintain it scoreless. Extra time proved to be a step too far, and Basingstoke went on to win 3 v 0.

Our biggest thoughts go to Elle, playing like a demon, she simple drove her self too far. Hope you get better soon.
