Wey Valley tournament 08

Tournament: 21 June 2008

On a damp Saturday, Winchester took 3 teams to the Wey Valley tournament (Bordon), U11, U13 and U15. This unusual age group ranges allowed for some selections based on mixed teams from different age groups.

U13's

Simple put - what a great team performance. Reaching the semi finals they played our hosts Wey Valley, and went on to win 2-0.  In the final they played St Francis, league champions from the Winchester & District League. After full time there was nothing in it at 0-0, extra time was played with penalties looming, but in the last minute of extra time, Winchester scored to win - Congratulations.

U11's

The U11's took 4 from this years U10 age group and another 4 from the U12B squad. They soon found themselves playing in a deliberate pool of all the stronger teams, but they showed their metal. 1st game was against their hosts, with both teams getting use to the format and each other. Though Winchester had plenty of possession - neither team looked like scoring and it end 0-0. Against Cowplain Youth, Winchester should have won 5-0!! But it took a late Goal from Mille to win the game. Next game was against the U10 nemesis - Southampton Saints, a team that did not lose a single league game in 07/08. But..... within 20 seconds Winchester were 1-0 up, a pass from Lydia split their defence and Millie was there again to score. Disappointingly, Soton went on to equalise. Last game was against a very strong Alton team, that went on to win 2-0. But a great time was had by all 8 girls, many being asked to play in different positions to ensure all had equal access to the field.
