Winchester City 1 - 2 Aldershot

After another excellent performance from the team on Sunday morning there were high hopes for the match against Aldershot under the floodlights at Alresford. The players were ready and rearing to go against last years Hampshire Cup winners and we were all expecting a challenging and highly competitive match.

With kick-off delayed almost half an hour the match finally started at 7.30. Maybe the lights should have already been on Matt? as within the first thirty seconds the visitors had taken the lead capitalizing on a miss weighted back pass to the goal keeper. "It's the first time i've ever palyed left back, honest!". But, neither Matt nor the rest of the team allowed this early set-back to stand in the way of their main goal and Winchester set about matching Aldershot in every position on the park, coming close to an equalizer more than once, and playing extremely professional football.

It was no surprise that the second half bought more of the same as Winchester City pushed themselves further and harder in the attempt to get the equalizer they so desperately needed and thoroughly deserved. Their reward came half way through the second half as Ben Unsworth collected the ball on the right hand side and did fantastically well to put in a pinpoint cross to the center of the box which Jack managed to convert with a typically stylish finish. That's 3 in 3 Jack!

At 1 - 1the game became a tense affair with Winchester pressing at every opportunity. Aldershot resorted to playing the long ball, missing out the midfield, where they were being overrun and hoping the increased pressure on the back three would lead to a mistake. In the end it paid off as Aldershot managed to grab a last minute winner, playing another long ball over the top of the defence which their striker managed to reach and turn into the bottom corner of the net.

Despite their bests efforts to retrieve the draw the final whistle came too soon and the lights went out on a great game of football.

A lesson learned and proof that we can be as good as the best!
