Winchester, without Danny L and suffering from a number of minor injuries, started the match with an experimental line up seeing Ty playing right back and Ben F (sporting an all new hairstyle!) on at left back.
Broadway were determined to get revenge on Winchester having already suffered 2 defeats at their hands this season and from the start they were faster to the ball and more determined in the tackle. Winchester couldn't settle on the ball and Mitch and Karl were having to be at their dominating best at the back while upfront Dan and Jack were finding it difficult to deal with the physicality of the Broadway defenders.
The Broadway midfield were controling the game and forcing Winchester to play long balls from the back. Winchester couldn't settle and a number of rash Broadway tackles were going unpunished. A foul on Zak was quickly followed by a Kick on Karl (right between the legs - Ouch!) but no free kick and the frustration was starting to boil over. Steve and Ace were then both pulled up for free kicks and this just heaped more pressure on the defence and Sam was forced into a couple of fine saves before a fantastic shot from outside the box put Broadway 1 - 0 up.
With half time fast approaching Winchester attacked down the right and the cross finds Jack in the box, he beats his marker but sees his shot come back off the bar.
Half time David, Ty and Jack make way for Ben U, Jamie and Danny K and Winchester start to up the tempo. A Jamie cross is headed just wide by Ben U and minutes later Jamie wins a free kick on the edge of the box but Winchester fail to test the keeper. Broadway attack again and win a penalty but Sam makes a fantastic save and the score stays 1- 0.
Whether it was the penalty save or the change to a 3 - 4 -3 formation but all of a sudden Winchester grew in confidence and started to take control of the game. A quick throw from Sam releases Jamie on the right and his pass finds Ben U who runs through and side foots his shot into the corner of the net for 1 - 1. Late tackles on Danny K and Karl result in Broadway finally going 1 - 0 up in bookings! and their loss of discipline eventually results in a hand ball in the penalty area from which Steve makes no mistake. 2 - 1.
Not a great game but its always a great result when you can win without playing well!
