Here's the rant...
It's a disgrace when you turn up at 9.00 AM on a Sunday morning for any match (let alone a Hants Cup Match) and the opposition haven't even got a ref organised. Not only that they didn't have flags, whistle or coin! and It's definitely "taking the mickey" when you take time to prepare your team professionally for a 10.00 kick off and don't even get started till 10.25!
Here's the report...
With Jamie and Matt unavailable for today's game it was a little concerning when Webby also picked up an injury just be fore kick off but Winchester made a flying start going 2 - 0 up in the first few minutes. First Dan scores from a Josh corner and minutes later Jack scoring with a curling shot from the edge of the box following good work by Danny L, Zak and Danny K down the left. VT looked as though they were going to be on the end of a real thumping! Danny L hit a shot into the side netting, Danny K curled a corner just passed the post (no one could get the final touch needed), Jack blasted over. It all looked too easy and then Winchester seemed to switch off and it all went wrong!
Winchester stopped challenging and VT started to fight.
A Danny L foul on the edge of our box gave VT the chance to curl in a free kick to make it 2 - 1. In a vain attempt to put life back into the game Josh came off for Mitch and Ben F pushed forward but there was still no fire, no belief. Maybe Ben U on for Jack would make a difference? A long kick from Webby gave Ben U the chance he needed. He ran through held off the defender and the keeper's challenges to stroke the ball home. 3 - 1 and the last of the excitement before half time.
The second half started with Steve and Zak off for Ace and David but Winchester still couldn't settle into a rhythm and the game degenerated into a bad tempered battle. A terrible tackle on Danny L resulted in a "free for all" and another spate of substitutions. With about 20 minutes left the rain came down and suddenly Winchester started to play again. Steve threaded a lovely pass through to Ben U who found David unmarked and his shot curled just over. Finally Winchester were competing again, a crunching tackle by Mitch released David again but he hit the side netting this time. Then Ace finds Ben U and his shot is pushed round the post and from the resulting corner Zak's flick skims the bar. Hopefully all these missed chances won't come back to haunt us!
With time running out Winchester switched off again. A high hopeful ball into the box is punched clear only to be thumped straight back in to the empty net to make the score 3 - 2 and it stayed that way till the end.
Next game - AFC Totton in the league.
