Today was the third match against VT this season. In the First we went 2 - 0 up in 5 minutes and then switched off but still got the win and the second ended 1 -1 with 2 of our team in Hospital. Other than those first few minutes in the first game we had never shown VT our true strengths so it was a real pleasure today to see Winchester rip VT to shreads.
Almost from the off a Danny K throw found Ace and his through ball picked out Steve who lobbed just over the bar. A VT free kick is gathered safely by Sam and he releases Danny K again to find Zak but his long range effort didn't test the keeper. Winchester were playing some lovely football flowing from side to side with Ace and Zak dictating the tempo and another great move saw a cross from Ben S diverted just wide by David.
Mitch put in a great tackle to cut out a long through ball by VT and realease Danny K again. Great interplay involving Zak, Jamie, Tom, Steve, Danny K and Ben S resulted in Jamie getting on the end of a fantastic 15 pass move only to see his shot tipped round the post. The slightly over hit corner finds Zak who lays the ball back to Mitch to shoot from the edge of the box (sorry - bit of a defenders shot!). Finally pressure had to tell and a great cross field ball from Ben S found Tom on the right and his ball into the box was met first time by Zak at the near post to make it 1 - 0 and there was still time for Mitch to power a header just wide before the half time whistle.
Half time David makes way for Jack and immediately Winchester are on the attack again. A Ben S cross is cleared out to Tom, he finds Zak who again lays it back to Mitch to hit a long shot this time bringing a great save out of the keeper. Ace continues to dominate the midfield another pass this time putting Jamie through on goal to lob the keeper and the bar!!
Ben S and Tom make way for Ty and Carl S and a great pass from Carl S puts Zak through one on one with the keeper and the ball rebounds to Ace whose deflected shot rockets into the net for his first goal of the season. Soon it was 3 - 0. Good sustained Winchester pressure saw a long shot from Steve deflected for a corner from which Karl managed to get the final touch at the far post.
To their credit VT kept trying and Ty was forced into a fantastic block to snuff out any possibility that Winchester might fail to keep a clean sheet. With about 15 minutes to go Jamie made way for Ben S upfront and he found Jack whose snap shot from the edge of the box flew just wide but there was still time for one more goal.
A great one two between Ty and Carl S and Ty whips in a great low cross and Zak clatters the keeper again and this time Jack manages to get his foot to the ball and tuck it under the keeper for 4 - 0. Mitch makes way for Tom and Winchester play out the last few minutes without drama and in total control.
Finally we showed VT what we could do! Excellent.
