Winchester City 5 - 1 Stoneham AFC

It is a common saying that “practice makes perfect, but in this case it really could!"

Last Sunday the newly formed but already strong and confident Winchester City U16 Academy side was strengthened further after winning their first Pre-season friendly 5 – 1.

Many people had felt that the newly created squad would need a period of time to adapt to the change in style and quality of the opposition, and that there could have been some problems with the team working together after only a few weeks training. However, the players proved the sceptics wrong and all fears were dispelled by a crushing performance that many professional teams would have been happy to achieve.

The win has already established a belief and confidence within the squad and amongst the supporters, with many individual players starting to set both personal targets and team goals.

Following 2 early goals striker Ben Unsworth came off the bench to score a hat-trick and seal a comprehensive win, but the most satisfying result of all was not the performance of individual “stars" but the performance of the whole squad. With 3 players still to return from their holidays competition for places this year is going to be HOT….

Maybe with practice we can be the perfect squad!

Not much to live up to GUYS….
