Winchester City 1 Taunton Town 3

BRITISH GAS BUSINESS FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION 1 SOUTH AND WEST

City’s good run came to an end on Saturday when a Taunton Town team proved to be a little further ahead in its team building than the home side which failed to spark.

City started strongly with a good move involving Dave Allen, Tom Riddell and Richard Gregory which resulted in the latter sweeping a shot just wide. On 11 minutes however, Taunton took the lead when Scott Thomas was allowed room from a corner to power home from close range.

Winchester were soon back on terms when Steve Llewelyn picked up a loose clearance and cleverly lobbed the advancing keeper in the 13th minute.Taunton then turned up the pressure and City had an escape when a cross shot evaded Clint Davies’ dive but luckily missed the far post by inches.

Just before half time City nearly took the lead when Gregory clipped the bar with a header.

In order to get the team playing Manager Andy Leader brought on all his substitutes at half time, Matt Bowler, Riddel and Nathan Miles were replaced by Adam George James Knight and Aaron Parfitt. The situation did not ease however and Taunton looked the more likely to score and this they did in the 62nd minute. Gary Fisher broke through in the centre and slotted home from the edge of the penalty area.

Things went from bad to worse for City when Davies was caught too far off his line and Saun Anthony rounded him to score Taunton’s third in the 68th minute.

City: Clint Davies, Gareth Thomas, Adam Lang, Scott Gillham, Matt Bowler, Steve Llewellyn, Richard Gregory, David Allen, Tomm Riddell, Nathan Miles, Paul Taplin, Substitutes James Knight, Aaron Parfitt, Adam George.
